These were turbulent ‘in-between years’ after the end of imperial China with the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty until the foundation of the People’s Republic of China led by Mao Zedong. Times of civil wars, invasions and revolutions as well as times of change in the economic, social and cultural fields.
